“A View from the Front Porch” by GCCA studio artist Mary Pauly is an art exhibition that invites you to explore the serene beauty and resilient spirit of farm life in the 1950s. Through large format paintings and family photos, this exhibition offers a nostalgic glimpse into Pauly’s formative years on a family farm, where simplicity and hard work intertwined to create a unique tapestry of memories. Pauly states “I remember it as peaceful, pastoral, and sometimes zen-like. On a family farm, everyone pitches in to do whatever part of the “chores” there are to keep the farm working. Milking the cow, gathering eggs, and tending the vegetable garden as well as the cash-crop—which in North Carolina in the 1950s, growing, harvesting and marketing tobacco plants.”
