Letter from GCCA Gallery Director

Letter from GCCA Gallery Director, Ben Tarcson

As we start out into 2026, I am excited to share a year of art exhibitions that invite you to connect with us. This Year at a Glance represents more than just a schedule. It reflects our commitment to presenting art that inspires ways of seeing and deepens your understanding of the world around us.

Across the Main Gallery and Community Gallery, the 2026 art exhibition slate places a strong emphasis on the depth of artistic talent in our region, highlighting artists from across the Upstate and neighboring states and celebrating the brilliance of contemporary artists that surround us.

We begin the 2026 exhibition slate with three exciting exhibitions in our Main Gallery that cover topics from human presence, transformation, and artistic self perception. Our Main Gallery is our largest gallery at 3,250 sq. ft of display space that features artists in solo and group shows from across the Southeast in two month exhibitions.

  • Lumen Matter - Solo Exhibition by Molly Kaderka - Opening February 6th

    • Large-scale tapestries and collages that connect geology and human presence, inviting reflection on our relationship to the natural world.

  • New Magic in a Dusty World: Making Matt Baumgardner in 1980s New York - A Matt Baumgardner Retrospective - Opening April 3rd

    • An exhibition featuring work from acclaimed artist Matt Baumgardner, exploring the ebbs and flows of his early career, revealing how his artistic perspective emerged from lived experience and how community shaped his creative practice.

  • Chimeras - Group Exhibition curated by Alexander Rouse - Opening June 5th

In our Community Gallery, the spirit of openness and exchange continues by highlighting our studio artists, students, Brandon Fellows, instructors, and collaborators who make our creative ecosystem thrive. This gallery is focused on getting Upstate South Carolina artists displayed. These Community Gallery exhibitions emphasize experiences of learning and affirm the gallery as a place where experimentation and shared dialogue are welcome.

We look forward to welcoming you into our free admission galleries throughout the year to be inspired, challenged, or renewed by the work on view. Make sure to be on the lookout for more detailed information on our website for each exhibition as the year progresses.
